This original art piece uses my design of Michigan's Upper Peninsula set against a background of antique floral wallpaper, layers of encaustic (beeswax) medium, various oil pigments. Embellished in silver pigment. Edges are painted brown / bronze and feature drips from the hot beeswax medium, which adds to the tactile nature of the finished piece.
Colors are bronze, green, silver. See my other listings for other variations: I've repeated this design in several other color combinations - for those of us who love the Upper Peninsula! AKA The Yoop, the 906, "God's Country." (If you're from the U.P., or you've visited, then you know.)
The encaustic wax encases the images, and each new layer lets the layers below show through. Encaustic pieces offer a wonderful depth, texture, and tactile nature for the viewer to enjoy.
On cradled birch board, signed, ready for hanging.
These mini 4 x 4 original art pieces are appealing on their own, or select several of your favorites to create an interesting and unique art collection when placed together on your wall - see photos for an example.
