This original art piece uses an old found photograph of a house with a pink-tinted roof, overlaid with my painting of a birch tree with a bird nest. The piece features layers of encaustic (beeswax) medium and oil pigments. Edges of the piece are in turquoise blue and feature drips from the hot beeswax medium, which adds to the tactile nature of the finished piece.
The encaustic wax encases the images, and each new layer lets the layers below show through. Encaustic pieces offer a wonderful depth, texture, and tactile nature for the viewer to enjoy.
On cradled birch board, signed, ready for hanging.
These small original art pieces are interesting on their own, or you can select several of your favorites to create an interesting and unique art collection when placed together on your wall - see photos for an example featuring some of my 4 x 4 mini encaustic pieces.
I use copies of my photos (so as not to destroy the originals with the heat of the wax and fuser) and when objects like keys and hardware are included, they are authentic vintage pieces.
